But do these apps really help you reach your fitness goals?

Effectiveness of Fitness Apps

There is mixed data on the effectiveness of fitness apps – and admittedly, this shouldn’t be surprising. According to new data, it turns out that fitness apps are only helpful to those who are already predispositioned to healthy behaviours. Realistically – this makes sense. It’s not the app that will get you in shape, but how you choose to interact with it. Those who are already inclined to follow diet guidelines and get active are more likely to find success in health and fitness apps. For regular gym-goers, the apps can help to push these healthy behaviours and help the user to create and reach new goals.

However, this doesn’t mean those who are new to fitness can’t benefit from the apps. Health and fitness apps can teach those new to, or struggling with fitness the correct behaviours. With health and fitness apps, you can monitor and adjust your routines and behaviours to what works best for your body until the choices become second nature. These apps can provide the support system for those struggling with healthy food choices or aren’t sure of how to tackle a trip to the gym. The effectiveness of these apps for those of us who may be a little more casual with our fitness routines does vary, although success stories and rave reviews are being posted online. With the aid of online support groups that coincide with these apps, the accountability is present. Motivation and reasons for getting in touch with fitness are personal – however, the support, online accountability, and tools are available at your fingertips to help guide you through every step of your journey.
