PD Day Camp FAQs
Frequently Asked Question for our PD Day camps.
Why is lunch not included in the Mini-Ravens Camp for the JK to 1st Grade age group?
For our Mini-Ravens camp, we try to follow the lunch routine that our Mini Ravens campers would be used to in kindergarten. For that reason, we have two shorter nutrition breaks evenly spaced during the day, rather than one longer lunch break in the middle of the day.
Unfortunately this schedule, along with the longer transition time to walk across campus to the Fresh Food Company, means that it is not practical to provide lunch at the FFC for this age group and we feel that eating in the familiar surroundings of the mini ravens room and having more time to spend on fun activities is a better experience for the campers. This is the reason that our mini-ravens summer and PD day camps are offered at a lower price than the equivalent sports camps and we ask parents to pack a nutritious lunch instead.
What do I do if my child has food allergies?
Our cafeteria is certified to be a tree nut and peanut free eating environment. Please be aware that no outside food is allowed to be brought into the criteria in order to ensure that no customers are accidently exposed to nuts. If your child has other food allergies such a gluten or dairy, or has religious dietary restrictions, please let us know ahead of time and we will ensure that a sous-chef is available to advise on appropriate options from the buffet or coordinate a special meal to be served to your child at our cafeteria. The cafeteria is able to accommodate most food allergies.
What time can I drop off and pick up my child?
Our PD day camps run from 8:30am to 4:30pm. The PD day camp drop off period is from 8:00am until 8:30am. If you arrive late for the drop off period and cannot find any camp staff or supervisors, then we ask that you please go to our Welcome Center in the Alumni Hall building and one of our Welcome Center staff will be able to help you bring your child to their group. The PD day camp pick up period is from 4:30pm until 4:45pm. We kindly ask that you please try to arrive no later than 4:45pm for pick up.
Where do I drop off and pick-up my child?
Unless otherwise stated in the welcome letter, drop off and pick up will occur in our Fieldhouse building. The Fieldhouse is located right beside the Alumni hall building near parking lot P5. Parents can enter the Fieldhouse directly from the outside or through the Alumni hall building. For directions, please refer to our campus map which can be found here: https://carleton.ca/campus/map/
When are the welcome letters usually sent out?
Welcome letters for each camp are usually e-mailed out on the Wednesday before the camp starts.
Do I need to pay for parking?
Unless otherwise stated, we ask that parents please park in lot P5. Parents do not need to pay for parking during the drop off and pick up periods of the PD day camp. In the morning, one of our staff members will give you a temporary parking pass which you can place on your driver’s side dashboard to be used for the pickup period at the end of the day. If you receive a parking ticket in error during the pick up or drop off period, please contact us and we will address the ticket with parking services on your behalf.
