The following guidelines were based on documents provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health for the operation of summer day camps in a COVID environment.

On July 7, 2020 the City of Ottawa has issued the directive to make masks mandatory in indoor public spaces. Please note that Day Camps are NOT considered an enclosed public space under the order. For more information, please visit the Ottawa Public Health Website

CAMP FORMAT

  • All camps on campus will follow a half-day model with separate morning and afternoon offerings.
  • Camp group sizes will be limited to a maximum of 10 people (8 campers and 2 camp staff). Camper to staff ratio will be 4:1
  • 2 Groups will never cross paths or participate in activities together.
  • Many of our drop off and pick up locations have been moved entirely outdoors onto our two large athletics fields (MNP Park and Ravens Road Field). In the event of rain, campers will be secured safely indoors for drop-off/pickup and our staff will escort campers to parents waiting outside and vice versa.
  • No other services will be offered by Athletics within camp hours.
  • Camp parents/general public will not be allowed in Athletics facilities.

CLEANING

  • Our facility custodians will be taking extra care to sanitize all public spaces, including doorknobs, handrails, elevator buttons, washrooms and equipment frequently throughout the day.
  • Our custodians will be using cleaning products that have been proven effective against the COVID-19 virus.
  • Our facilities will undergo a deep cleaning every night before the start of our next camp day. There will be no entry into the building until its opening.
  • Hand washing stations will be available around facilities and outdoor fields for staff and campers to use.
  • Campers will be instructed on proper techniques to sanitize their hands (sing Happy Birthday for 20 seconds) and will be monitored to ensure they are sanitizing their hands correctly.
  • Camp groups will be assigned their own equipment that is labeled and assigned to only that group for the week (e.g. Equipment bag #1 is only for camp group #1 to use for the week).

COVID SCREENING & PRACTICES

  • Staff will maintain a physical distance of at least two metres (6 feet) from other people, except for brief exchanges.
  • Physical distancing of 2 metres will be emphasized, with the exception of staff interventions for behaviour management and issuing first aid. Face coverings (non-medical masks) will only be used if physical distancing of at least 2 meters cannot be maintained (e.g. first aid treatment).
  • Camp participants and parents will be asked to screen for the symptoms of COVID using Ontario’s COVID-19 online self-assessment tool (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment) at home prior to the arrival at the camp.
  • If a camp participant begins to experience symptoms of COVID while attending the camp, they will be immediately be separated from others and placed in a supervised isolation room and the parent/guardian will be notified for immediate pick-up.
  • No staff member or camper who displays symptoms of COVID will be allowed to attend camp.
