{"id":2006,"date":"2025-08-20T13:34:47","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T17:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/athletics.carleton.ca\/community\/?page_id=2006"},"modified":"2025-08-20T13:34:50","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T17:34:50","slug":"persons-with-disabilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/athletics.carleton.ca\/community\/persons-with-disabilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Persons with Disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-max  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n        \n        \n        \n            \n    <div class=\"cu-wideimage relative flex items-center justify-center mx-auto px-8 overflow-hidden md:px-16 rounded-xl not-prose  my-6 md:my-12 first:mt-0 bg-cu-black-50 pt-10 pb-12\" style=\"\">\n\n        \n        <div class=\"relative z-[2] max-w-4xl w-full flex flex-col items-center gap-2 cu-wideimage-image cu-zero-first-last\">\n            <header class=\"mx-auto mb-6 text-center text-cu-black-800 cu-pageheader cu-component-updated cu-pageheader--center md:mb-12\">\n\n                                    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold mb-2 text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] cu-pageheader--center text-center mx-auto after:left-px\">\n                        Persons with Disabilities\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                    \n\n<p>Goods and Services to Persons with Disabilities<\/p>\n\n\n                            <\/header>\n        <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    \n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton Recreation and Athletics will make every reasonable effort to ensure that its policies, practices and procedures are consistent with the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensuring that all Patrons receive the<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"> same value and quality;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allowing Patrons with disabilities to <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">do things in their own ways<\/strong>,<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"> at their own pace<\/strong> when accessing goods and services as long as this does not present a safety risk;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customers with disabilities are <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">allowed to fully benefit from the same services<\/strong>, in the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">same place, <\/strong>and in the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">same or similar way as other customers.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alternative measures, rather than integration, might be necessary because a person with a disability requires it or because another option cannot be provided at the same time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If we are unable to<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"> remove a barrier to accessibility<\/strong>, we will consider what else can be done to <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">provide services to people with disabilities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using alternative methods when possible to ensure that Patrons with disabilities have access to the same services, in the same place and in a similar manner;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking into account individual needs when providing goods and services; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicating in a manner that takes into account the Patrons disability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"assistive-devices\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assistive Devices<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Persons with disabilities may use their <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">own assistive devices<\/strong> as required when accessing goods or services provided by Carleton Recreation and Athletics. The provision, use and safety of personal assistive devices are the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">responsibility of the person with a disability.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In cases where the assistive device presents a <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">safety concern<\/strong> or where <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">accessibility might be an issue,<\/strong> other reasonable measures will be used to ensure that Patrons are able to access our services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"notice-of-temporary-disruption\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notice of Temporary Disruption<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Recreation and Athletics will <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">endeavor to provide customers<\/strong> (i.e. internal and external stakeholders, members of the public, with notice in the event of a planned or unexpected disruption in the facilities. This notice will include information about the reason for the disruption, how long the disruption is expected to last, and a description of alternative facilities or services available (if any).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department will endeavor to<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"> use the Internet sites<\/strong> to provide notice of temporary service disruptions when required as well as post notices on all public entrances to our premises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carleton Recreation and Athletics will make every reasonable effort to ensure that its policies, practices and procedures are consistent with the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity by: Assistive Devices Persons with disabilities may use their own assistive devices as required when accessing goods or services provided by Carleton Recreation and Athletics.
