Ages: 11-15 Years Old

Cost: $69 + HST (Includes Red Cross Babysitting Manual)

Course Description:
Offers basic first aid and care giving skills for youth 11-15 years old. Participants learn how to provide care to children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the skills to promote themselves as babysitters to prospective families. This course is taught entirely online. 

Course Content:

  • How to be responsible and demonstrate leadership
  • How to make good decisions and manage difficult behaviours
  • Information on children’s developmental stages, and specific strategies for each stage
  • How to feed, diaper, dress, and play with children and babies
  • How to recognize and prevent unsafe situations, make safe choices and promote safe behaviours
  • First aid skills
  • The business of babysitting

Courses Dates & Structure:

  • 8 hours of Instruction per course taught through Zoom
  • 2 separate courses running
    • MORNING Course Option (10:30 AM – 12:30 PM DAILY) –

Tuesday April 13th – Friday April 16th

    • AFTERNOON Course Option (1:30 PM – 3:30 PM DAILY) –

Participant Requirements / Materials Needed

  • Babysitter’s Manual (include with course)
  • The Zoom App (free) installed on your PC or tablet
  • Notebook
  • Markers/colored crayon (if available)
  • Computer with Video & Microphone Capabilities
    • An Ipad/Tablet with Video & Microphone Capabilities is also acceptable.
    • Please note the due to requirements with viewing videos, PowerPoint presentations, etc. a smart phone is not recommended

For virtual classrooms, the following is required:

  • An adult must be on site with the learner – they do not need to be present in the video, but they must be available in the space for help if needed.
  • Each learner needs to have their video and audio on for the duration of the session (audio can be muted as needed).
  • Recording sessions is not permitted.

Other Materials Required

Please note that if you are unable to provide/obtain these materials below exceptions/alterations are allowed and can be discussed with the instructor on a case by case basis.

  • A Doll or Stuffed Animal

  • A diaper (if not readily available at home, cloth towels/etc can be used)

  • Gloves (If latex/medical type gloves are not available other types of gloves (winter etc) can be used)

There may also be times that candidates can use a family member (parent/guardian or sibling) if possible to practice certain course requirements.

It is NOT an expectation that candidates/families should have to leave the home to purchase items for the course.

An email will be sent to all participants before the course is set to begin with more information about the course and how the equipment can be adapted depending on the participants capabilities within their home. Participants will also receive a private link to their Zoom learning meeting and the password to join.
