Jazz dance combines technique from both classical ballet and modern dance into a fun, upbeat, and rhythmic style. This class will focus on strength, flexibility, technique, and conditioning as well as progressions of steps such as turns, leaps, and kicks. Dancers will learn choreography and gain confidence in their movement and performance quality. Dancers of all background and skill levels are welcomed.

Taught by Alicia B.

Alicia has been dancing since the age of 2 and has not stopped. She is professionally trained in various disciplines including Jazz, ballet, lyrical, tap, contemporary, and hip-hop. She competed in these styles for 12 years and traveled across North America with her team performing in solo and group competitions, winning various awards at regional and national levels. She also has experience dancing with professional companies like The Alberta Ballet company where she performed in the production of the Nutcracker at the NAC in 2014. Her favourite styles to dance and teach are lyrical and Jazz as she loves the variety they offer in movement style and expression.

In this class, she hopes to show her students the fundamentals of Jazz dance and allow students to explore their own style through the use of different types of movement and musicality. This class is open to all levels, and she will cater to each student’s individual needs regardless of whether they have previous dance experience or not!
