Geography & Sports Camp

With a mix of hands-on activities in the great outdoors, on campus, and in the lab, campers will dive into the wonders of the natural world. If your child is curious about streams, soil, plants, animals, and the relationship between nature and people, this STEAM focused camp provides a unique chance to discover the environment around Carleton University.

This is a collaborative initiative between Carleton University’s Department of Geography and Environmental Studies and the Department of Recreation and Athletics.

Exploring the physical features of the land and how they impact our daily lives
Will study various elements of the environment, from soil and stream microorganisms to the plants and animals living around Carleton University
Will also engage with technology through tools like Google Earth Engine to analyze satellite images.
Hands-on experiences will include a scavenger hunt around campus using maps and identifying natural features outdoors, as well as lab-based activities to learn more about local geography.
Weather permitting, there may also be an outdoor excursion to explore nearby geographic landmarks.
Sports and activities may include playing a number of games and trying different sports such as:
- Ball Hockey
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Ultimate
- Water Games

The 2026 Geography & Sports Camp Runs for Two Weeks

– Week 1: Aug 10 – Aug 14
– Week 2: Aug 17 – Aug 21

Early/Late care is available as an ‘add-on’ during registration for $30/week.

Early care runs from 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM
Late care runs from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Our aquatics team follows the Ontario Lifesaving Society’s standards for pool supervision, and all staff are fully trained and certified as National Lifeguards, ensuring the highest level of safety and supervision for every swimmer. In addition, our camp counsellors are in the water with campers, providing an extra layer of support and supervision.

As per our admission standards, children under the age of 7 must wear a life jacket and are only permitted to swim in the shallow end. Campers aged 7 and older may choose to complete a swim test on the first day of each camp week. Those who pass the test can swim in both the shallow and deep ends, while those who do not pass (or choose not to take the test) must wear a life jacket and remain in the shallow end. Our aquatics centre provides life jackets in all sizes and ensures each one fits campers correctly for their safety and comfort.

Ages & Friend Requests

Campers remain with the same group of similar ages throughout the week, following a designated group schedule.

Parents can request for their child to be placed in the same group as friends by using the friend request option during registration. While we strive to accommodate all requests, friend requests cannot be guaranteed.

Requests involving significant age differences (e.g. a 8-year-old placed with a 11-year-old) may not be honored due to group dynamics.

Our cafeteria has a selection of vegetarian, gluten free and Halal food options.

Our cafeteria does not use any peanut or tree nuts in their recipes, and does not purchase products with peanuts or tree nuts in the ingredient list.

There is always a risk of cross-contamination due to its open kitchens and self-serve style. Hence, we advise parents of children with food allergies to communicate these allergies to us when registering.

No outside food is allowed inside the dining area.
