Part-Time Strength & Conditioning Coach (Weekends)
The Weekend Strength & Conditioning Coach will work as part of Carleton University’s Recreation and Athletics team to deliver high-quality strength and conditioning programming to community-based competitive teams training within Carleton’s High-Performance Centre.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning and delivering safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate strength and conditioning sessions for community competitive teams on weekends
- Delivering programming primarily scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays within the High-Performance Centre
- Collaborating with Recreation and Athletics staff to support high standards of training delivery
- Adapting programming to meet the needs of diverse age groups, abilities, and sport backgrounds
- Maintaining a positive, inclusive, and professional training environment
- Ensuring adherence to facility policies, safety standards, and best practices in strength and conditioning
- Supporting program growth through strong communication and relationship-building with community partners
This is a part-time position with weekend hours, based on program demand and scheduling.
Qualifications
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles and programming for competitive sport environments
- Understanding of long-term athlete development and appropriate training progressions
- Strong technical and practical experience in performance coaching
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with Recreation and Athletics staff
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to create a safe, engaging, and motivating training environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
Education and Experience
- Undergraduate degree in kinesiology, sport performance, or a related field
- Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) or equivalent certification
- First Aid and CPR certification
- 1–3 years of experience coaching strength and conditioning in a competitive or community sport setting
- Experience working with youth and/or developing athletes considered an asset
- Experience working within a shared training facility or multi-user environment considered an asset
