Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor
The National Lifeguard Instructor course provides candidates with an understanding of the principles and practices on which the National Lifeguard program is based.
This course explores teaching approaches and techniques appropriate for National Lifeguard candidates. After successful completion of the course, National Lifeguard Instructors are certified to teach the National Lifeguard course in the option(s) they hold (i.e., National Lifeguard Instructors who hold National Lifeguard Pool may teach National Lifeguard Pool, etc.).
Required
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Alert Manual (from National Lifeguard candidate course)
- National Lifeguard Instructor Package (included as mandatory add-on during registration)
- A leadership binder that contains:
- the ‘Guide to Ontario Public Pools Regulations’
- National Lifeguard Award Guide
- Teaching National Lifeguard USB resources
- Instructor Manual (from Lifesaving, Swim or SFA Instructor courses – option add-on during registration if you have not already purchased one with another instructor course)
Prerequisites
- National Lifeguard certification (any option)
- Lifesaving Instructor certification
Please Note
This is a 16hr course. Candidates are progressively evaluated, so 100% attendance is required. There is both classroom and pool components.

April 30th and May 7th (virtual session) AND May 3rd and 9th (In-person session) 6:30 – 10:30pm

Cost
- $183 ($177.51 + 3% CRF) +HST
- $105 (National Lifeguard Instructor Pack) * Includes National Lifeguard Award Guide, Teaching National Lifeguard USB Flash Drive, Guide to Ontario Public Pools Regulation and Leadership Binder.

- Effective January 1, 2026, a Capital Renewal Fee (CRF) of 3% will apply to select non-student facility rentals, programs, and services. This fee supports long-term facility maintenance and renewal, with all funds directed to a dedicated capital renewal fund. Certain exemptions may apply.
