For many adults sports were an integral part of growing up. Whether you played in competitive leagues or just played at your local park with friends, sports are a great way to be active and have fun. But somewhere along the way we forgot the important role sport played in our lives. Now our daily routines are so filled with obligations and responsibilities that just finding thirty minutes to go to the gym can be difficult.

Sports are a great way to have fun and forget the stresses of everyday life. Here are five other reasons why you should join an adult recreation league:

1. Reignite your passion for sport

It can be difficult to work physical activity into your daily schedule but lack of passion plays a key role here as well. When you participate in sport it becomes apart of your life, giving you new goals and aspirations to reach. But when it is out of your life it is easy to forget about your love for sport- “out of sight, out of mind”. Once the passion is back and you remember why you once loved to play that sport, you won’t be able to stop again.

2. Meet New People

Meeting new people can become more difficult through adulthood. We tend to see the same coworkers, classmates and friends daily and meeting new people just isn’t easy. Joining an adult recreation league will be the perfect avenue to meet like-minded people and establish new relationships.

3. Learn a new skill

If there ever was an activity you always wanted to try or become skilled at, now is as good a time as any to try. Maybe you want to learn golf to help establish career connections or you and your partner have always wanted to learn tennis, than it is time to get out their and learn that skill. The best part is that you are picking an activity you are passionate about, making you more likely to stick with it and truly learn that skill.

4. Practice your teamwork and communication skills

We often interact with the same few groups of people in our everyday lives. That allows us to fall in the same routine of social interaction. Working with new people in a team atmosphere will allow you to interact with a group, forcing you to harness your teamwork and communication skills.

5. Change-up your normal workout routine

Routine is not a word that should be taken too lightly when it comes to fitness. It is easy to get stuck in one type of workout routine. Your body at this point will quickly become accustomed to that workout and will not give you the desired results you are hoping to see. Balancing both aerobic and anaerobic exercises are key to long-term fitness success. A sports league can be the extra aerobic exercise you need or can be the jumpstart you need to make physical fitness apart of your daily routine.
