Junior Ravens Baseball is part of Carleton University’s Junior Ravens program. These programs give young players the opportunity to work with the Carleton Ravens varsity coaches and players in a range of development programs in different sports.

2025 Winter Junior Ravens Baseball

Registration for our Junior Ravens winter baseball program will open on Wednesday, November 6 at 9:00am

The winter session will run for 11 weeks running from Saturday, January 11 to Saturday, March 29 (there is no program on March 15).

Program Structure

The Junior Ravens Baseball program offers specialized lessons in hitting, pitching, fielding/base running and catching for all children ages 7 to 13 years. Each specialized lesson is 60 or 90 minutes long and runs over the course of 11 weeks. Baseball FUNdamentals is 90 minutes. Participants can register for back to back lessons (e.g. Hitting & Pitching).

PITCHING ($325):

As a foundation, players will be taught the importance or warming-up and maintaining arm health and durability.  Our pitchers progress through basic aspects of throwing to pitch mechanics including grip, lower body push and stride, release point and follow-through.  Depending on player progression and age the pitcher will also be introduced to more advanced skills including mental preparation, pitch variety, holding runners, and fielding.

  • Equipment to Bring: Glove, baseball pants or sweat pants/shorts, indoor running shoes (no cleats), and jock/jill cup.

HITTING ($325):

Players will be introduced to the science of hitting including preparation, grip, mechanics including stride, swing plane, rotation and separation to produce reliable contact and power.  As the weeks progress, players will be taught situational hitting including intent, increased bat control and hitting for power.  The goal is to develop a high level of awareness and hitting IQ alongside solid mechanics to elevate batting performance.

  • Equipment to Bring: Batting helmet, bat, baseball pants or sweat pants/shorts, batting gloves (optional), indoor running shoes (no cleats), and jock/jill cup. Please note a limited number of additional bats are available at the clinic. 

FIELDING ($295):

Players will learn the mechanics of infield catching and throwing, defensive responsibilities including holding runners, situational fielding and positioning, and safely turning double plays. The fundamentals of glove and foot work are essential to fielding and this will be a central focus of this clinic.  Players will also be taught the fundamentals of base-running and stealing.

    • Equipment to Bring: Glove, baseball pants or sweat pants/shorts, indoor running shoes (no cleats), and jock/jill cup.
    • Please note: Players enrolled in our 9:30 Pitching or Hitting camps will be excused to attend their respective clinics at that time.

CATCHING ($295):

Working on the skills and drills required to be a productive catcher.  Instructional clinic will focus on the fundamentals of the catching position with proper stance, footwork, receiving, blocking and throwing drills as taught by our instructor. We will also cover plays such as pop flies, plays at the plate, bunt plays and throwing out runners. Catchers will participate in supervised live pitching sessions, where they will receive feedback to help improve key skills such as set-up, framing, and blocking. 

    • Equipment to Bring: Catcher’s gear including chest protector, shin guards, face mask, and catcher’s glove, baseball pants or sweat pants/shorts, indoor running shoes (no cleats), and jock/jill cup
    • Please note: Catchers enrolled in our 9:30 Pitching or Hitting camps are permitted to join this class in progress at 10:30

Baseball FUNdamentals ($295):

An introduction to the fundamentals of baseballs focusing on fielding, hitting and throwing. Players will learn how to set-up defensively and move to the ball, develop safe and effective swing and throwing mechanics, and build their baseball IQ.  The program is designed to cover key facets of the game in order for young players to get a headstart on the season and lay a strong foundation for future development.  Sessions will also include time for indoor baseball and games that develop baseball skills in a fun atmosphere.

  • Equipment to Bring: Batting helmet, bat, glove, baseball pants or sweat pants/shorts, batting gloves (optional), indoor running shoes (no cleats), and jock/jill cup.
