Program Overview

Our Junior Ravens Karate program is aimed towards children who are 8 to 14 years oldThe program is low risk with non-combative classes designed for beginners or children who want to return to the sport, focusing on discipline, coordination and confidence. Traditional Gōjū-ryū Karate is one of the main traditional Okinawan styles of karate, featuring a combination of hard and soft techniques.

Classes specifically work on gross, fine and complex motor skills that complement the many stages of development through drills and exercises. Every class works on developing physical and mental strength, helping to lay the groundwork for a healthy lifestyle in the future.

Katas

Katas are the detailed choreographed patterns of movements. The basic goal of kata is to preserve and transmit proven techniques and to practice self-defense. By practicing in a repetitive manner the learner develops the ability to execute techniques and movements in a natural, reflex-like manner. Please see the video demonstration from Ottawa Traditional Karate Academy .
