Program Structure

The Junior Ravens Soccer program has 3 sessions which take place in the spring, fall and winter. The program is overseen by the head coach of our varsity men’s soccer team Marcelo Plada and was designed by our Director Of High Performance Sport Kwesi Loney

The program structure is built around 3 core values and is

  • Developing young soccer players to reach their potential, regardless of current skill level.
  • Promoting a love of the sport and wider knowledge of the game.
  • Creating a culture of fair play and respect for teammates, opponents, coaches and the game itself.

Each week the 1 hour program is broken into 4 x 10-12 minute circuits, which the players rotate through keeping them engaged in four different skill building activities. Training circuits will consist of everything from small sided games, physical literacy, obstacle courses, fun soccer related games and specific skill development.

Players will be placed in groups of no more than 15 at the start of the program and will remain in their group for the duration of the program.

The main objectives of our program have always been to create a fun safe environment where kids can learn the fundamentals of the game, and grow a passion for soccer and sport in general. We encourage personal growth through exciting challenges, teamwork and building friendships. We are taking an exploratory approach to the relationship of space and movement and how it applies to soccer. The game of soccer is our vehicle but we are strong believers in multisport athletes, where development of spatial and movement skills are transferable through all sports.

Continuing for Winter 2025:

F.A.S.T. Program (Fundamentals – Advanced – Specific – Training) Ages 8 to 10 and 10 to 12 years old

Our Junior Ravens soccer program is geared towards beginner players. Our Junior Ravens F.A.S.T. soccer program will add an additional component for intermediate to advanced players (ages 8 to 10 and 10 to 12 years old) to further their fundamental enjoyment of the game. We are excited as this will expose players to soccer specific concepts in a fun and safe environment. The priority is to develop individual skills and ability in the areas of:
1) Controlling the Ball
2) Running with the ball
3) Passing the ball
4) Shooting
5) Special Techniques (Volley’s, Feints, Goalkeeping, Defending)

Players will receive quality instruction from a combination of Carleton soccer, coaching staff, alumnus, and current men and women varsity players.  With the goal of providing explanations, and trigger points for various soccer actions delivered within the session. We hope to create an environment for players to use their imagination, creativity so that they may develop through trial and error. Our flexible and fluid approach will allow us to work with various age groups at one time, keeping true to our F.A.S.T approach.
