Hockey Camp Structure

Skate and Swim

The skate and swim camp offers a chance for kids born between 2017 and 2019 to sharpen up a couple of key life skills in a single week of camp. Each day they will have a swimming pool session and two on ice sessions in the morning and afternoon. The rest of the day will be spent on other sports activities. All participants must bring their own skates, helmet, gloves/mits and swimming costume. Full hockey equipment is not required. It is recommended that participants bring a face mask for their helmet and knee pads.

Initiation

This camp is designed for kids who have played one year of Fundamentals-level hockey or for those who are completely new to the game. Players will spend parts of the ice sessions in small groups based on general skill level and experience. Session instruction will focus on the main areas of skating but will also introduce stickhandling and other basic concepts. Players will be on the ice for one hour each morning and another hour in the afternoon. Full equipment is required for all of the players. If you are unsure of the required equipment, please visit our F.A.Q. link at the top of this page

U9*, U11, U13 and U15 Hockey Camp

During the 3 hours spent on the ice each day the camps listed below will focus on all of the vital aspects of skill development for hockey players. Skating, stick handling, passing and shooting will all be areas taught and practiced during the week by incorporating these skills in a wide variety of drills, games and stations.

On-ice, goalies will be paired with our goalie instructor for appropriate training. Goalies’ instruction will involve targeted small-group training as well as incorporation into stations where they will receive shots from the other players. There is a separate registration bar code for goalies for each of these sections (see table below).

*From July 7 to July 25, U9 players will receive 2 hours of total ice time each day which is reflected in the price. U9 players receive three hours of total ice time per day for the week of June 30 to July 4 and from July 28 onward.

Girls’ Only Camps

We offer girls’ only camps at the U9, U11, U13 and U15 level. The girls’ camps have the same format and structure as our general hockey camps.

Competitive Camps

We offer competitive camps for U9, U11 and U13 level players. Competitive camps are run in the same format as our general hockey camps, with the same amount of ice time but will feature drills and concepts suitable for competitive players. Players registering for competitive camps must have played competitive hockey during the past winter season.

Goalies*

Goalies in each camp will be on the ice with the skaters and will be together with them for all off ice activities. On-ice, goalies will be paired with our goalie instructor for appropriate training. Goalie instruction will include targeted small-group training and integration into stations where they will face shots from the skaters.

* Please note, all goalies must register under the appropriate program their specific age group and camp week. Goalies receive a discount off of their camp fee and pay only $369 for any camp week.

Location

All camps are held at the Carleton Ice House and the accompanying off-ice sports facilities on the Carleton University campus.
