Program Description

Our Youth Speed Development Program is designed to build movement literacy, speed, and agility in young athletes. Led by highly qualified coaches, this program focuses on proper running mechanics, acceleration, and change of direction techniques in a fun and supportive environment.

This program is specifically designed to enhance speed and change of direction skills with an emphasis on quality over quantity. Athletes perform drills in a fresh and recovered state, allowing them to develop optimal mechanics and movement efficiency without the limitations of fatigue. Through tailored drills and expert coaching, participants will enhance their movement efficiency and athletic performance across all sports. Whether your child is looking to gain a competitive edge or refine their agility and coordination, this program is ideal for youth athletes of all levels.

Coaching Team

The program is run by Nick Wescott (Manager of Performance & Sport Science) and other coaches from our High Performance Centre.

With over 15 years of experience in strength and conditioning, Nick has established a distinguished career focused on enhancing athletic performance at the highest levels. Nick holds an Undergraduate Degree in Exercise Science and a Master of Science degree, where his research focused on resistance priming, exploring innovative strategies to optimize performance. This strong academic foundation informs his approach, blending scientific rigor with practical application in strength and conditioning.

In addition to his role at Carleton, Nick has spent over a decade as a Strength and Conditioning Consultant with Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Programs, where he has played a key role in preparing athletes for international competition. His expertise extends across various sports, having worked and consulted with numerous National Team athletes and National Sports Organizations, bringing a breadth of experience to diverse high-performance environments.
