Carleton Athletics’ adaptive sports and recreation programs provide Carleton students and Ottawa community opportunities to stay active, no matter their fitness experience or abilities. With programs for all abilities, Carleton is proud to offer a variety of fitness activities and programs to suit your interests.
The Intro to Para Swimming program aims to provide youth with disabilities the opportunity to learn and improve competitive swimming skills in a safe and welcoming environment, starting at whatever level of experience and skill they may possess.
Adaptive Strength and Flexibility
This specially designed accessible fitness class is for those who require modifications and/or adaptations due to physical limitations. You will receive feedback and guidance on how to properly move throughout many motions. The instructor emphasizes an open discussion to bring to light any personal limitations for a safer and more well rounded workout routine. You will leave feeling confident that you have gained knowledge and the skills to continue being active on your own in any space.
Together in Adaptive Dance we will explore movement through music of every kind, from hip hop to classical music. We will learn new ways our bodies can move each with its own variation. The class will be composed of learning musicality and different rhythms, stretching and strengthening exercises as well as fun combinations of dance movements to show off to your friends and families later on. Let your creativity come to shine in our adaptive dance program for people with physical disabilities or limited ranges of motion.
Boccia can be played by anyone, with or without a disability. It is an easy sport to pick up, but quickly builds intensity and complexity as you develop in the sport. Unique to boccia is it’s co-ed. Men and women play on the court together and against each other. It’s a sport of accuracy and precision similar to curling and lawn-bowling.
